Summary
[edit]DescriptionBishopstone Beach Halt station.jpg |
English: Site of Bishopstone Beach Station Opened in 1864 when the extension from Newhaven to Seaford was completed it was built to serve the residents of Tide Mills and included a siding that ran into the village itself. The track was doubled in 1904 and the northern platform was added though the station itself was downgraded and renamed Bishopstone Halt in 1922. With new developments occurring further east on the outskirts of Seaford a new station was opened in 1938 (with a pill box built on the roof!) and this one closed. However, it was reopened in 1939 as Bishopstone Beach Halt and continued to serve the remaining residents of Tide Mills until they were evacuated in 1940. The station closed for the last time on New Year's Eve 1941. |
