English: Birkenshaw and Tong railway station (site), Yorkshire Opened in 1856 by the Great Northern Railway on their line from (amongst others) Laisterdyke to Wakefield, this station closed to passengers in 1953 and completely in 1964. View west across the former level crossing towards Dudley Hill and Laisterdyke. No trace remains. For a view in the opposite direction taken 53 years earlier, see SE2029 : Birkenshaw & Tong Station (remains). This image would seem to have been taken from adjacent to the signal box on the 1961 image. |
