English: Birkenhead Hamilton Square. This view down Hamilton Street from in front of Birkenhead Town Hall towards the iconic tower of Hamilton Square Station makes an interesting comparison with Ben Brooksbank's photo from 1961 1802049
The square no longer sees through traffic, so paint-on mini roundabouts have replaced the pre-Worboys direction signs to such places as New Brighton and Hoylake. But the most obvious casualty of the years is the loss of the massive cylindrical chimney of the Shore Lane pumping station which used to drain the Mersey rail tunnel. |
