Ponds, Lakes, Rivers, and Marshes Complex
Text Appearing After Image:
Dominated by Yellowstone Lake and Jackson Lake, this complex includes numerous ponds, lakes, rivers, and marshy areas which dot the landscapes of both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Larger rivers include the Yellowstone, Madison, and Snake. Unique aquatic areas in Yellowstone include the glacial pothole areas of the Lamar Valley and the aquatic areas associated with the hydrothermal features. The aquatic features of both parks are ringed with pondweed, pond lily, marestail, cattail, elodea, and other aquatic plants. Characteristic Birds of Ponds, Lakes, Rivers and Marshes Complex: white pelican, great blue heron, trumpeter swan, Canada goose, mallard, gadwall, pintail, green-winged teal, blue-winged teal, American wigeon, ring-necked duck, lesser scaup, Barrow's goldeneye, bufflehead, ruddy duck, common merganser, bald eagle, marsh hawk, osprey, sandhill crane, sora, American coot, killdeer, common snipe, spotted sandpiper, Wilson's phalarope, California gull, belted kingfisher, cliff swallow, dipper, common yellowthroat, yellow-headed blackbird, red-winged blackbird, Brewer's blackbird, savannah sparrow, song sparrow.
