le. How unique that would be. I thinkI hear mothers footsteps. Yes, hereshe is. Well, Mabel, were back; we weremuch longer than I expected for thestores were filled. Have you beenlonely? No, mother, dear, Ive been listeningto the Holly talk, and mother, I can un-derstand now what was meant whensometime ago you quoted these words.Trees have voices of different tones, and quick, trained ears know these tonesthough it is only the hearing heart thatcan understand what the trees say. Good night, Holly, and a Merry Christmas. Evelyn Singer. »io

Whenfeeding, the Flamingo appears to liter-ally stand on its head. There are six species of Flamingoesknown, two being species living in theold world and four in the new. One ofthe best known of the latter is the sub-ject of this sketch. The American Flamingo rangesfrom Southern Florida and the Bahamasto Brazil and the Galapagos Islands. Al-though a very abundant bird in itsbreeding range, the Flamingo was untilrecently quite unknown in its domesticlife. Various authors have argued proand con in regard to its alleged habitof stra
