In captivityalso, when they have young birds tofeed, it might be best to supply the par-ents with insect food such as the mealworm. If, however, insect food is oncegiven the young birds it must be con-tinued. They are active birds, and theyalso enjoy Vhittling full as well asany other parrot, and in captivity theyshould always be supplied with a pieceof wood on which to exercise their bills.The King Parrots are not very brightbirds, nor are they very intelligent.Neither are they very tame, though nowand then an individual may be foundamong the male birds which will notonly become tame and sociable, but mayalso be taught to repeat some simplewords. N quiet and, so far as we know, not onehas ever been taught to repeat words. Mr. W. T. Greene gives the followinginteresting account of a pair of KingParrots in captivity: *A pair of adultKing Parrots were placed in an out-dooraviary, only a portion of which wasprotected from the weather. The in-terior was fitted up with logs suitablefor nesting places, and the whole of theback was covered with pieces of virgincork. The King and Queen soon madethemselves at home in their new abode,and commenced by looking out for ahouse among the hollow logs of varioussizes that had been placed at their dis-posal by the owner; none of these, how-ever, seemed to be to their taste, andafter trying first one and then another,they gave up the logs as a bad job al-together, and selected for their resi-dence a ledge under the roof in theinner portion of their abode, which was shaded from observation by a bioadpiece of cork, and on this ledge theQueen deposited her eggs, how many innumber the owner could not
