The Trogon family consists of eightgenera, five of which are found onlyin Central and South America and in theWest Indies; one is confined to Africaand two to the islands of Java and Su-matra. This family is notable for thebrilliancy and softness of the plumage,and there are few birds which will exciteas much admiration as does the Resplen-dent Trogon. The skin is so singularly thin that ithas been not inaptly compared to wetblotting paper, and the plumage has solight a hold upon the skin that when thebird is shot the feathers are plentifullystruck from their sockets by its fall andthe blows which it receives from thebranches as it comes to the ground. Its eggs, of a pale bluish-green, werefirst procured by Mr. Robert Owen. Itschief home is in the^ mountains near Co-ban in Vera Paz, but it also inhabits for-ests in o
