sited byEuropeans, they found the nativescultivating three distinct species. Somevarieties, with proper management, will be in fruit in about eighteenmonths from the time the suckers arerooted. The juice oi the pineapple islargely used in flavoring ices andsyrups for soda-water; the expressedjuice is put into bottles heated throughby means of a water bath and securelycorked while hot. If stored in a coolplace it will preserve its flavor per-fectly for a year. The unripe fruit isvery acrid, and its juice in tropicalcountries is used as a vermifuge.
