re quiet during theday and very busy all night. The Snowy Owl is not so quietday times. He flies about con-siderably and gets most of hisfood in daylight. A hunter who was restingunder a tree, on the bank of ariver, tells this of him: A Snowy Owl was perched onthe branch of a dead tree thathad fallen into the river. Hesat there looking into the waterand blinking his large eyes. Suddenly he reached out andbefore I could see how he did it,a fish was in his claws. This certainly shows that hecan see well in the day time. Hecan see best, however, in thetwilight, in cloudy weather ormoonlight. That is the waywith your cat. Owls while perch-ing are almost always found inquiet places where they will notbe disturbed. Did you ever hear the voice ofan owl in the night? If younever have, you cannot imaginehow dreary it sounds. He surelyis The Bird of the Night.

Butwhen the wearers are reminded thatthere was such a life; that it wascheery and beautiful, and that it wascut short merely that their apparelmight be adorned, they are quick torecognize that bird destruction involvesa wrong, and are ready t
