Minor and Korthern 22 CORVID^ Palestine. It is not easy to separate the breeding ranges ofruficollis and laurencei, but the former appears to be essentially abird of deserts and bare hills whilst the Punjab Eaven is morea bird of wooded country, though both are great wanderers andoverlap one another constantly in their non-breeding haunts. Nidification. This Eaven makes a large nest of sticks, sometimesliued with a little wool, leaves or smaller, softer twigs and placesit near tlie top of a tree either in the open or in thin forest. Theeggs number from four to six, generally four or five and are apale blue-green marked with deep brown and with underlyingmarks of pale grey and neutral tint. The markings are usuallythickly distributed over the whole surface but are sometimesbolder and blacker and more sparse, making the eggs very hand-some in appearance. They are typically rather long ovals. Theyaverage about 50*7 x 33-6 mm. The breeding season is fromthe end of December to early March.
