some evergreen bushthey are noticeable and pleasing birds. ,By wilderness aviary I do not mean merely a dense tangleof wild growth, but a well planned arrangement of open spaces, bushes and patches of tangled grass and herbage. While con-sidering how to fill up this issue I came across a photo (takenlast year) of the interior of flight of the Duchess of vVellingtonswilderness aviary, which well illustrates this point (see opposite);unfortunately the photo only covers the ornamental centralavenue of the aviary, but behind the flower beds, on either sideof the aviary, everything is left to grow wild, and here amidthe tall grass Giant Whydahs have reared young for severalyears in succession, and Indigo Buntings also have successfullvreared their offspring. The illustration also shows that it is 2 Mamukins. possible Ic) lia\e llowcrs and l)ir(ls in the same asiary, t(jr tlii>enclosure has been occupied for several years princi()ally l)y acollection of Fringilliitc and Floccinc finches.

The above is not a complete list of the group, l)ut it willanswer its purpose, and includes some of the species I have kept. Diet : This can be given for the whole group. It isvery simple. The main dietary is canary, white and IncHanmillet seeds, and millet sprays. When rearing; young somespecies—Bronze, and Magpie Mannikins, etc.. are very eager formealworms and other insects: and they also take a little insectilemixture, and eat greenfood gre
