K A Yorhshire Aviary. 245 The aviary covers an area 45 feet x 15 feet of which10 feet X 10 feet is given up to a lofty and well lightedshelter. The photo, through it well indicates the generalcharacter of shed and flight, certainly does not do justice to aroomy, natural and pleasingly arranged enclosure. The flightis entirely given up to grass, plants, etc., with the exceptionof a space 10 feet x 6 feet in front of the shelter, which isgravel—here is placed a large seed hopper, constructed tocatch husks, etc., which fall into a trough, thus preventingthe untidy litter of husks, etc., usually associated with aviarieschiefly given up to seed-eaters. The flight contains a largeshallow cement bath, and flight and shed are well furnishedwith various nesting receptacles. At present it contains aboutone hundred inhabitants—Finches, WaKbills, Mannikins, Tana-gers, Buntings, Doves, and Pigeons. FINCH AVIA,RY.Scarlet Tanagers. Alario Finches. Crowned Tanagers.
