ur President all winter and well into the spring, whenshe spent much time in her garden. May 5 a small party of our members spent a delightful day in the woods,by creeks and lakes, and identified 52 species of birds. We are trying to getour Council to secure an ordinance for the control of stray cats. We are young, very young, and a little proud, so far, for a one-year-old.—Florence L. Gregory, Secretary. Spokane (Wash.) Bird Club.—Our organization has been in existencefor three years. Early in the present year we had an illustrated lecture by 114 Bird- Lore Prof. Hungate of the Cheney Normal School on The Economic Value ofBirds. One of the regular meetings was planned for the purpose of making themembers acquainted with each other. Instead of the usual formal program,contests were arranged, requiring the identification of local birds. A VIEW OF PORTION OF EXHIBIT MADE BY SPOKANE BIRD CLUB AT THE INTERSTATESTATE FAIR, SEPTEMBER, 1917. largely attended and the most successful from the standpoint of the numberand variety of birds seen. The Bird Club exhibit at the Interstate Fair, held the first week in Sep-tember, was greatly appreciated, judging from the favorable comments of thelarge crowds that stopped to examine this display. The members of the Bird Club feel that they have accompHshed a good workthis year by helping to establish a much-needed city museum. One floor of adown-town business block has been rented, and a large collection of stuffedbirds, birds eggs, and other interesting material has been assembled for theinstruction of the public. A curator has been placed in charge, and themuseum is kept open each afternoon of the week. The Bird Club nowholds its fortnightly meetings in these rooms.—Gertrude Kaye, Secretary-Treasurer.
