ABANDONED NESTS IN A RUINED IBIS COLONY directly from a plume-hunters camp insouthern Florida, where agents of theplume-traflic have been unusually activethis season. This grim evidence was dis-played in order to bring the people ofTampa to a more thorough realization ofthe crime that is being enacted against thestate of Florida. During the four days itwas on display a crowd was alwaysgathered on the sidewalk watching it, andreading every bulletin, word for word. Many persons are growing erroneouslyoptimistic in regard to the status of theEgret in Florida, for it is true that thesebirds are now occasionally seen wherethey have been unknown for years. Dur-ing the past year, they have been quitefrequently observed in the environs ofTampa, and a few days ago I saw anEgret flying over the city.
