rrrf»^»sri. A NEST OF WILSONS PLOVER results to the birds, and the picturesobtained are often very interesting. With this article I present photographswhich I have secured of some of the moreunusual species of Florida birds, that Ihave had the good fortune to find. in southern Florida. A few remain hereall winter, but become most numerous onthe beaches in the latter part of March.I have found fresh eggs as earh- as April2, and as late as July 10, These ploversbuild no nests—just bollnw out a place 472 Bird - Lore in the beach a few yards above high-watermark, and lay three, rarely four, beautifulgreenish-gray eggs, spotted, blotched, andlined with blackish brown and light laven-der. Early in June of this year I was camp-ing on a small sandy key, about a hundredyards wide, between the Gulf of Mexicoand a bay. The plovers were nesting on abank of white sand that had been thrownup by steam dredges a few years before onthe bay side, probably half a mile long, andbarely a foot above th
