The scope of these measures, and the great fight through which they becamelaws, were graphically described at the annual meeting, October 18. LastJanuary, a personal letter was written to each of the ninety-three UnitedStates Senators to support the McLean-Weeks Bill. Last summer, when itwas learned that the feather-trade lobby in the House was making desperateeffort to have the plumage proviso altered so that its power would be prac-tically destroyed, and had succeeded in getting the ear of some conservativemen who were unapproachable from a money standpoint, immediate stepswere taken to secure the attention of Senator Brandegee by issuing acircular letter calling attention to the urgent need for immediate action.This was sent to nearly 1,000 citizens, asking them to write at once to theSenator. We have also been ably seconded in our efforts in behalf of these billsby the press of the state, particularly the Bridgeport Daily Standard,that being the local organ of the Society. In addition to this work, 200 circulars bearing upon different phases weresent out at the request of the National Association. Though we have not, this year, added to our traveling libraries, we havecontributed toward the express charges of those already in circulation, as wellas toward the cleaning and re-binding of those popular books that are con-tinually showing signs of wear. Mr. Wilbur F.
