And now a word as to the future. The passage of the splendid federalbird-protective laws the past year and the strengthening of many state lawsto a point which seems to make them little short of perfect, does not meanthat our troubles are at an end. These measures will doubtless be assailedin the courts, and never has there been a time when the influences of wiseand earnest educational endeavor were more needed than at present. In addition to the lines of work in which we have already engaged, thereare new fields of opportunity opening before us the coming year, and thefuture holds much in the way of service which will call for stoutest heartsand most courageous minds.

In order to carry on this work,it has been imperative also to raise a considerable amount of money. Allthis necessary labor has taken a great deal of time. All the legislatures of New England, except that of Rhode Island, haveconsidered many bills proposing changes in the fish and game laws.
