TheLighthouse Board is in hearty sympathywith the work of the Audubon Society, andsent a circular to keepers of light-stationsmaking a violation of the state bird andgame-laws a cause for dismissal from theLight-house Service. Investigations have shown that cats areone of the greatest causes of destruction ofbirds. I feel that it is as much a violation ofthe law to allow your cats to destroy birdsand eggs as for you or your children, orothers under your control, to do so. You will confer a favor upon me, as wellas upon the Society, if you will closely con-fine all cats on the island until after thefirst of September, or else send them to themain-land.—W. D. AN APPEAL The Association has a large deficit;there is urgent need of funds with which topay its wardens in September; new mem-bers are needed. Will you take a personal interest in thismatter? —W. D.
