Of course a small fund must be raised for the carrying on of soextensive an enterprise; but, when it is known that contributions of grainand mill-sweepings are even more acceptable than money, the material willnot be lacking. Then, when one village tries this experiment and enthusiasm is kindled,another is sure to follow, like the leaf fire that runs along the fences in au-tumn until all the country-side seems bound by it. In due time, thewhole country might be joined by a chain of stations for food and shelter,if each society for bird protection will not only lend a hand, but stretchit far out toward its remote neighbors.
