Since the matter on the preceding pages was put in type, we havereceived a number of interesting censuses which we should have been gladto print had they arrived in time for insertion in their proper places. Wemust make room, however, for a record of the Pine Grosbeak at Wash-ington, D. C. (the most southern point from which the species has beenrecorded this season), by Mr. Thomas H. The picturewas secured by fastening the camera in an ash, about six feet away, attaching sixty feet oftubing, and on the return of the parent Owl, making a 20-second exposure. While thecamera was being removed the Owls vigorously attacked the intruder, coming to withinthree feet of his head, or, alighting on a near-by limb, with rufHed feathers and droopingwings, uttering a loud, cat-like mewing.
