erve as a nationalpark the wilderness of sand-dunes on thesouth shore of Lake Michigan. Amongthe many reasons for approving this pro-ject is the sanctuary it would afford fora great variety of birds, especially theuseful seed-eaters and the game-birds. Seattles Audubon Society makes aspecial feature of its bird-walks, whichare taken frequently to one or another ofthe many excellent places for observationin the varied country about that favoredcity. The Audubon Society of Minneapolishas been active in furthering the desireof many citizens to preserve for publicuse the old home of Senator Washburn inWashburn Park. The society wants roomsset apart for a bird-museum in the oldmansion. Among the newest and busiest of theclubs affiliated with this Association is theBird Club of Long Island, of which Col.Theodore Roosevelt is President. At arecent meeting at Sagamore Hill reportswere given of activities in several direc-tions, of which that most immediatelyimportant was the posting of signs.

Y.With photographs by the author EARLY in February, 1916, I established a feeding-place for birds closeto the side of a building, wath the primary object of obtaining birdphotographs.For feed I obtained several bushels of weed-seed at a local grain-elevator,and this waste proved to be an ideal bird-food as it contained almost everykind of weed-seed indigenous to this section of the state. A small artificial mound of snow was made and seed scattered on its slope.
