f birds who havedied, and by whose wills the NationalAssociation of Audubon Societies hasbecome a beneiiciary, is the late EphraimBenjamin Repp of Maryland. He wasborn at New Windsor, Maryland, in1846, and died in the same village onNovember 9, 1911. Although reared on afarm, he early learned the carpenterstrade, became a skilled mechanic, andworked in many places in the Eastern andCentral States. He was never married. Mr Repp became greatly interested in bird-protection, and did much to interestthe citizens of New Windsor in the sub-ject. As one of his friends writes: Attimes his zeal was greater than his dis-cretion, and in consequence he sufferedthe fate of most reformers—he acquiredthe dislike of a number of people. How-ever, he kept up his propaganda in thecounty papers, and accomplished much instimulating interest for bird protection. JAMES WILLIAM BARTLETT James William Bartlett was born inDover, New Hampshire. During a longseries of years the Bartlett family hasattained distinction in various ways, onemember having been President of Dart-mouth College. James William Bartlett was a man ofquiet and studious habits, very conscien-tious, and devoted to his sister Hannah,who never married. In her memory, andbecause of her interest in ornithology, heleft a legacy to the National Associationof Audubon Societies, which yielded about$475. About iQoo he was made a Trusteeof the Dover Hospital, in which he was greatly interested, and to which he devotedmuch of his leisure. He was also a directorof the Strafford National Bank. Some years after the death of his sister,he married Mary, daughter of ThomasNeil, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire,who survives him. He followed no busi-ness or profession, his means enablinghim to spend his life in travel and study.He died in Portsmouth on October 6,1906, leaving no children. He was great
