New Hampshire and Vermont.—Similar methods and kindly energybrought excellent results. New York.—A widespread and urgentappeal was voiced by the press, and avast amount of rescue-work was done,especially in reference to Ducks andupland game-birds. Brewster, Game Law Expertof the United States Department ofAgriculture, who has been doing suchsi)lendid work for a number of years inenforcing the federal regulations in refer-ence to the interstate shipment of game,is continually making interesting dis-coveries. Two of these are referred to inthe following communication recentlyreceived from him. The big gun to whichhe refers is a type of the enormous weaponswhich have long been used by the pot-hunters in certain regions along ourAtlantic coast. The value of one of theseguns to the market hunter lies in the factthat it can throw shot to a far greaterdistance than an ordinary fowling-pieceand, further, the quantity of pelletswhich it hurls at a single discharge iscapable of producing enormous executionon a flock of feeding wild-fowl.
