The nesting-boxes are probably the most conspicuous and interesting devicesto the average visitor, especially to the American who has already becomefamiliar with them in his own country. These are scattered everywhere throughthe home park and adjacent woods, and also in the forest, which is situated at 332 Bird - Lore a distance of some six miles from the castle. They are, as a rule, of the regula-tion sizes and shapes as described in the book, being imitations of the cavitiesexcavated l)y Woodpeckers, and about 90 per cent are said to be occupied each year.
