notbe borne, and \ou will have to choose between reformaiionand revolution. If I know the spirit of this country, theone or the other is inevitable. Before the canker is be-come inveterate, before its venom has reached so much ofthe body politic as to get beyond control, remedy shouldbe applied. Let the future appointments of Judges be for4 or G years and renewable by the President and Senate.—This will bring their conduct at regular periods, under re-visio. and probation, and may keep ihem in equipoise be-tween the general and special governments. We have er-red in this point by copying England where certainly it is agood thing to have the Judges independent of the King ;but we have omitted to copy their caution also, which makesa judge removeable on the address of both legislativehouses. That there should be public functionaries inde-pendent of the union, whatever may be their demerit is asolecism in a republic of the first order of absurdity and in-consistence. THOMAS JEFFERSON.
