He read law with J. L.Wiiite, of Jamestown, was admitted to practice ,in the United States District and Circuit courtsof western New York, in July, 1882, and hasmade a specialty of bankruptcy cases. On December 28, 1873, he united in marriagewith Emily Pelton, who is now the matron ofthe W. C. A. Hospital, Jamestown, N. Y. N. D. Lewis is a member of the Baptistchurch and a prohibitionist in politics. He hasbeen active in the work of his party, whose votematerially increased in Chautauqua countywhile he served as secretary of the County Pro-hibition Committee (1884-88), and in 1885when he was the nominee of his party
