Buck, father of the free streetfair at Mattoon. was born in Jonesville,Mich., in 1S49. He went to Mattoon in 1864.reaching there with a ravenous appetite anda capital of 45 cents. To-day Mr. Buck is theleading business man of that city, a merchantand manufacturer ina large way. To him.more than to any other man, Mattoon owesthe success of its street fair.
