| Description |
English: Bigbury-on-Sea from Burgh Island. This panoramic picture captures a view of the tombolo or sandbank which links the island to the mainland. The sandbank is totally covered at high tide which leaves the island isolated if it were not for the specially designed sea-tractor which can provide a passenger link to the island as long as the sea is not too rough! On the extreme left of the picture is Challaborough Bay (with a caravan holiday park) and on the right is the entrance to the River Avon. Notice that there is a helicopter landing place which can be seen marked with a letter 'H' and the top of the Burgh Island Hotel can be seen on the right of the picture.413390 |
