Description

Projetada por Niemeyer a Biblioteca Pública Luiz de Bessa fica na Praça da Liberdade, região central de Belo Horizonte.

A Biblioteca Pública Estadual foi criada por Juscelino Kubitschek em 1954.

A sede própria viria em 1961, projetada por ninguém menos que Oscar Niemeyer, e na prestigiada Praça da Liberdade. Mas o edifício, desenhado originalmente com seis andares, teve três deles cortados por questões financeiras. E assim, inconcluso, foi tombado pelo Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico em 1979.
