Notes | Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. In a contemporary purple calf binding, tooled and blocked in gold and blind, signed by Cassassus of Rouen. Macchi states; first half century, Rouen, bound by Cassassus. Born on april 1801 in Aire (Pas- de-Calais), he worked first in Rouen between 1830 and 1840, then in Bruxelles, at rue de l'Empereur 13, ten years later at rue d'Or 39 bis. He left his job towards 1860 and he died on september 16 th 1881 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. His bindings produced in Rouen, cover texts printed between 1801 and 1838; their decoration is obtained through cathedral and French restoration type panel-stamps, mixing blind and gold tooling.
