English: In November 1951, a monument of Gratitude to the Soviet Army, carved by Jan Ślusarczyk, was erected in the Planty Park near the fountain. The monument was 12 meters high, on a pedestal there was a silhouette of a liberator soldier with a weapon in his hand. On the sides of the main monument there were two smaller ones, representing two kneeling soldiers. On August 14, 1990, the monument in the Planty Park in Białystok was dismantled. The monument was moved to the military cemetery near Kawaleryjska and ul. Ciołkowski, it stood in the vicinity of the graves of Soviet soldiers - according to the will of the majority of society. During the dismantling, the Planty was calm, which was a good testimony to the inhabitants of Białystok. As a well-known Białystok guide said: "After death, everyone is equal, there are no enemies or friends, and it is worth remembering all who passed away." |
