Description
English: Bhandarkhal water tank in Patan Durbar area, a historic town in Lalitpur district. The palace was built in 1647 as the main water storage facility. The architecture of the tank includes a meditation pavilion, a step terrace, two stone lions, a piece of carved stone, Christian art, and various other arts. Includes 17th century relief carvings. The tank is connected to the historic water infrastructure of Patan. Groundwater flows from nearby sources through terracotta channels. The water tank had dried up and was restored in 2012. This Bhandarkhal Tank was formerly called Kamal Pokhari. There is a very artistic style stone fountain on one side of this pond. There are also three inscriptions in this stone fountain to identify the antiquity. This four-cornered pond is very attractive. On one side of the pond, on the east side, there is a terrace of very artistic style. Where the queen and the priest's wife and friends used to sit and enjoy the pond, the king used to give food to the fish in the pond. In this terrace, the queen used to change her clothes after bathing in the pond. There are various arts in this terrace. There is also 16th century Christian art on one side. The roof of the terrace is made of fine wood. There is an inscription in this pond too. Which is now housed inside the terrace. The same inscription mentions the antiquity of Bhandarkhal tank or lotus pond. There is a channel on one side of the pond and water is pumped into the pond from the same channel. There is also a small lotus shaped pillar in the middle of the pond.
