| Description | Built in 1967, this modern Public Library, part of the Bethlehem City Center complex, was designed by the architecture firm of Lovelace & Spillman. The building features a square footprint with a low-slope roof with a parapet clad in textured concrete panels that cantilevers over the exterior walls, steel columns with an X-shaped footprint and long arms at the top, with globe lights at the crown of the columns, an exterior curtain wall with textured concrete spandrel panels that wraps the entire exterior, cantilevered interior staircases, a simple railing at elevation changes around the building’s exterior porch, and a series of gardens around the building’s north, west, and south facades. The building is a noncontributing structure in the Central Bethlehem Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, though it has since stood long enough to be eligible for listing individually or as part of a district. |
