DescriptionBerthoud meteorite, back.jpg |
Berthoud meteorite fragment. Close up of the black, glass-like fusion crust caused by the high calcium content found in these achondrites. On October 5, 2004, a meteorite was witnessed to fall in Berthoud, Colorado. A couple had just come out of their house when they heard a whistling sound followed by a thump. They noticed some dust being stirred up in a nearby horse pen and a subsequent search turned up single stone weighing 960 grams. Bethoud is a rare and beautiful eucrite (monomict breccia) and it displays a glossy black fusion crust. |
