Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Silver cup from Berthouville's treasure, Eure département, Normandy. In James Curle, 1917, p. 137, fig. 7. Curle says about it :
« scyphus from the Bernay treasure. The principal figure in the design is a female Centaur seated on the ground. Her right hand is raised, her left holds a mirror. Her head, with floating hair wreathed with ivy, is turned back to the right; behind her is a basket of fruit, and a Cupid grasping the tall flower-stem of a poppy. Beneath the mirror is the cista mystica with the snake, and to the left a mask and an overthrown krater, on which stands a cupid blowing a double flute, while from the mouth of the overturned vessel springs a panther.  » (Curle, p. 137-138)
