Description |
entstanden im Auftrag von Bürgern und Bauern der Städte und Landgemeinden preußischer Provinzen. Nach dem Willen des Königs erscheinen auf der Tribüne überwiegend die »Nobilitäten«, die Friedrich Wilhelm IV. im Verlauf des Jahres 1841 nach Berlin berief (u. a. die Gebrüder Grimm, Peter Cornelius, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Ludwig Tieck), sie haben alle nicht an der Huldigung teilgenommen. Im Bild sind einige von Ihnen bereits mit dem – erst 1842 gestifteten – Orden »Pour le mérite« der Friedensklasse ausgezeichnet. Friedrich Wilhelm IV ließ vor Fertigstellung des Gemäldes einen kostbaren Rahmen anfertigten, dessen Inschrift die geplante Demonstration von Selbstbewußtsein der Bürger- und Bauernschaft vereitelte. |
