Deutsch: Ehemaliges Geschäfts- und Wohnhaus der Berliner Markthalle III an der Zimmerstraße 90-91 in Berlin-Mitte, erbaut 1884-1886 nach einem Entwurf von Hermann Blankenstein. Die Markthalle III, ein ausgedehnter Komplex, der sich bis zur Mauerstraße hinzog, gehörte zur ersten Generation der Berliner Markthallen und wurde 1886 eröffnet. Sie wurde 1910 zum "Konzerthaus Clou" umgebaut, einer Vergnügungsstätte. Hier hielt 1927 Adolf Hitler seine erste öffentliche Rede in Berlin. Ende der 1930er-Jahre kam das Vorderhaus in den Besitz des Eher-Verlags, des Zentralverlags der NSDAP, der im nicht erhaltenen Nachbarhaus unter anderem den "Völkischen Beobachter" und das SS-Organ "Das Schwarze Korps" drucken ließ. Die Markthalle wurde im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört; erhalten geblieben sind das Geschäftshaus und die ehemalige Durchfahrt mit Kreuzrippengewölbe. Während der Teilung Berlins stand das Gebäude im Mauerstreifen, Türen und Fenster waren entsprechend vermauert. Das rekonstruierte Gebäude wird heute vor allem von Galerien genutzt. Es ist als Baudenkmal gelistet.
English: Former commercial and residential building of the Berlin Market Hall III at Zimmerstraße 90-91 in Berlin-Mitte, built 1884-1886 to a design by Hermann Blankenstein. The Market Hall III was a large complex between Zimmerstraße and Mauerstraße. It belonged to the first generation of market halls in the city and opened in 1886. In 1910, it was converted into the "Concert House Clou", a place of public entertainment. It was here, that, in 1927, Adolf Hitler held his first public speech in Berlin. In the late 1930s the building came in the possession of the Eher Publishing House, the main distributor of Nazi publications. In a neighboring building (not preserved), Nazi organs such as "Völkischer Beobachter" or the SS weekly "Das Schwarze Korps" were printed. The market hall itself was destroyed in WWII, but the commercial building on Zimmerstraße including a passage with a ribbed vault survived. At the time of the Berlin Wall, this building stood in the border strip and the windows and doors were bricked up. The now renovated building is used by several galleries. It has been designated as a historic landmark. |
