Description
Deutsch: Das "Kurfürstenhaus" am Spreeufer im Nikolaiviertel in Berlin-Mitte. Das 1895/1896 von Carl Gause für den Kaufmann Gustav Ebell errichtete Gebäude ist das einige noch existierende aus einer Reihe von Geschäftshäusern, die Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in der Nachbarschaft erbaut wurden. Während seine Fassade am Spreeufer im Neorenaissance-Stil gehalten ist, weist die bei einem Umbau in den 1920er-Jahren entstandene Fassade an der Poststraße neoklassizistische und barocke Stilelemente auf. Das Gebäude steht unter Denkmalschutz.
English: The "Kurfürstenhaus" at Spreeufer in Nikolaiviertel in Berlin-Mitte. Built 1895 to 1896 by architect Carl Gause for merchant Gustav Ebell, this is the only preserved example of several similar commercial buildings erected nearby in the late 19th century. While the building has a Neo-Renaissance outlook at Spreeufer, the facade at Poststraße shows neoclassicist as well as baroque elements - the result of a renovation in the 1920s. The building is landmarked.
