Summary
English: The "House of Public Health" at Karl-Marx-Allee No. 3 in Berlin-Mitte. It was built in 1913 as a commercial building on Landsberger Straße (which no longer exists). After WWII, when Stalinallee (as Karl-Marx-Allee had originally been called) was constructed, the building was left standing slightly off the new socialist boulevard. At the time its construction, the building's sandstone facade with columns was very modern. The unobstrusive facade was further simplified during restauration after the war when the attic was also added. In the interior, many original elements have been preserved, e.g. doors with brass covers or ceilings with stucco marble. A number of doctors and health-care service providers reside in the building. It has been designated a historic landmark. |
