Summary
[edit]DescriptionBerlin's Cabarets (1920-1929) (3167811306).jpg | The roots of German cabaret lie not in 1920's 'Berlin, but in pre-war Munich. Although some experimentation with a cabaret style imported from Paris took place in Berlin at the turn of the century, notably at the Schall und Rauch cabaret of theatrical employer Max Reinhardt - it was in the south of Germany that das Kabarett sprung to life as a new and vital form of entertainment. Friedrich Hollaender was a German composer, he composed music for productions by Max Reinhardt and became involved in cabaret and wrote music for the film, The Blue Angel (1930). He left Nazi Germany and emigrated to the United States of America where he wrote the music for over a hundred films, including Destry Rides Again (1939), A Foreign Affair (1948), The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953 Academy Award nomination) and Sabrina (1954). Many of his songs were made famous by Marlene Dietrich. | ||||||||||||||||||||
