Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This drawing was produced by Henri Bergé at the beginning of the 20th century and represents a botanical study of Oak No. 41 (front) and Chestnut Tree (back). It measures 24.7cm by 32.4cm, has an annotation at the top right marked in “CHENE” ink; a second inscription at the bottom left marked in ink "N°41". The inventory number is "INV. 988.2.7". This drawing was donated in 1988 to the collection of the Ecole de Nancy museum, by the Société Pont-à-Mousson SA. Production as part of its activity within the modeling and drawing school of the Daum factory. This fruitful collaboration (which lasted almost 40 years, between 1893 and 1932) allowed Henri Bergé to produce numerous drawings where nature was translated with scientific precision. These drawings then serve as models in the Daum decor workshops and as part of the artistic education of apprentices. This drawing is the example of a much larger production which led to the creation of a major work by Henri Bergé for the Daum factory, his Floral Encyclopedia.
