Summary
[edit]DescriptionBenkid77 Birkenhead Tunnel1 1994.png |
English: On Sunday 17th July 1994, during celebrations of the 60th Annivesary of the 1934 opening of the Birkenhead (Queensway) tunnel connecting to Liverpool, under the riverbed of the Mersey, the tunnel was closed to traffic and opened for pedestrians to walk through from Liverpool to Birkenhead.
I walked through it on that day, there was a concert by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in the middle of the tunnel. This photo shows crowds walking into the tunnel at the Liverpool end. Photo taken with a 110mm film camera. Digitally scanned on 10th May 2009. |
