Description
English: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. Name card pasted on reverse side, with illegible writing under card. Card is not completed adhered to CDV. "Taken in the Battlefield of Corinth Capt. Benj. Tannrath" (written on name card). "Rt. Rev. Msgr. John J. Tannrath The Cathedral St. Louis" (printed on name card). Capt. Tannrath enlisted in the 1st Missouri Volunteer Infantry, Company B as a 1st Lt. and participated in the Camp Jackson affair (Rombauer, "The Union Cause in St. Louis in 1861," 1909: 353). Before the regiment's 3 month service time expired, it was turned into the 1st Missouri Volunteer Artillery, of which Capt. Tannrath commanded Company I (The Union Army vol IV 1998: 257 and digital soldiers records).
