Title
Belt/Strap Hooked Fitting
Description
English: Gilt copper alloy belt or strap hooked fitting, probably of Late Medieval or Early Post-Medieval date. This is a mount, probably originally associated with a belt on to which a sword or dagger scabbard would have been hung from the loop. The mount plate is sub-rectangular and gently concave in profile. At the apex of the mount the plate bends and becomes convex in profile. Near the base of the mount plate is the only rivet, around which evidence of the gilding survives. The loop gently curves outwards, and forms a tear shaped opening. The loop terminal on the reverse is expanded where the rivet meets.
