The equipment comes as a cabinetto be placed upon a table, and isdouble-sided: that is, arranged in thecenter of a table so that attendantson each side have access to the linesbetween them. Since this sort of or-der taking is likely to be somewhatof a continuous performance, attend-ants customarily wear chest trans-mitter and head-band receiver, leav-ing both hands free. Order receiving equipment, likeother telephone apparatus, is veryflexible in the variety of possible ar-rangements. It may be connected bytrunks to a central office, thus givingcustomers direct access to the order-taker; it may be reached by extensionlines through the firms P.B.X.switchboard; or a combination ofthese routes may be employed. ORDER RECEIVING EQUIPMENT The clerks in this telephone order department receive thousands of calls from the stores customers every day calls; it may or may not be linked bytie lines with another switchboard,another order turret or table, or tele-phones in various departments, on theselling floor, etc. Since the equip-ment is manufactured in units, theseunits may be installed side by side tomake as large an installation as theincoming business calls for. 1 HE directory listings already de-scribed in connection with residencetelephone service are generally applic-able to business telephones as well,and there are other ways in which thedirectory can serve business.
