Broadly speaking, the managersjob consists of keeping currently in-formed of facts about camp tele-phone needs, of getting a good pic-ture of what the men and their offi-cers think about the service, and oftaking whatever action is needed toavoid or improve any unsatisfactorycondition. These managers have tobe capable, fast acting men as well as ^943 Service for Service Men 27 good-will ambassadors. Much Im-portant work often has to be donequickly on the job, sometimes with-out the benefit of the usual staff as-sistance. Evening hours and week-ends take special attention, since call-ing is heaviest then. Accompanying a manager duringthe course of his days work, to see the new section: its layout, its build-ings, and the kind of troops to bequartered there; estimate the facili-ties needed, decide whether attendedservice is warranted, plan telephonelocations, and arrange for space.Approvals must then be obtained,and arrangements made to providethe service when the area is activated.
