Three more order clerks of about the same caliber asthe original three were added to the study group. The newgirls were rated as capable according to the existing storestandards and practices. They knew nothing, of course, ofthe sales work of the three original girls. This permitted com-paring the results of the new clerks with those of the originalstudy clerks while handling the same type of customers callscoming in over a common group of telephone lines.
