Information compiled at WeatherBureau stations, Civil AeronauticsAdministration observation points,and Naval Aerological and AirWeather stations, as well as weatherinformation obtained through inter-national exchange agreements withforeign governments, is all concen- and Air Communications Service (theoperating communications agency forthe Air Force), the Civil AeronauticsAdministration, the Weather Bureau,and other communication channels,are used at WBAN to receive read-ings of their multitude of instrumentsfrom weather observers in all partsof the country. These data are trans-mitted to Washington in long tele-typewriter messages full of numbersand strange symbols which are mean-ingless to anyone but trained person-nel. While the data come in as a con-tinuous stream, they actually repre-sent a series of weather observationsmade at specific and precise timesthroughout the day. Each weather
