Because of the complexity of airoperations, it was essential that com-manding officers have accurate fore-casts available well ahead of plannedoperations. Also, because of thelarge areas involved in both theEuropean and Asiatic theaters, it wasessential that forecasts at manypoints be coordinated. To complicatethe problem, comparatively few well-trained meteorologists were availa-ble.
