The Radio Administrative Confer-ence started on May 15, the Pleni-potentiary on July I, and the High Frequency on August 16. The HighFrequency Broadcasting Conferenceadjourned on September 27, and theRadio and Plenipotentiary Confer-ences were concluded on October 2with the signing of the new RadioRegulations and the new Treaty orConvention. During this time there were Issuedover 1,600 numbered documents con-taining proposals, reports of meet-ings, etc.. Involving in all about fif-teen million pages of mimeographedmaterial. Atlantic City was chosen as thelocation for the conferences for thevery practical reason that it was theonly available place which could ac-commodate for three or four monthstheir more than 700 members, whosework would be done by a score ofcommittees for which many confer-ence rooms would have to be pro-vided. Inspection completed: These visitors have been examin-ing the antennas, atop the Long Lines building, of theNew York-Boston radio relay system, which had notthen been placed in commercial operation after one got used to It—althoughsome of the foreign visitors wouldhave been happy if they had hadmore opportunity to see other partsof the country. The conference was organized onthe basis of a six-day week except oncertain week-ends when other activi-ties were planned, and the committeemeetings and delegation conferenceshad to be scheduled at hours whenconference rooms were available andwhen there was no conflict with otherimportant committees on which dele-gates might be sitting. The workday stretched out to late evenings,therefore, and frequently until aftermidnight, so that the 20 weeks werea grind for all the participants.
